First show of the Darkest Hour Summer Tour 2005.
i've never felt so impulsive but great music, an inspiring, very special artist and dear dear friends will get me going with little urging. ;) it was a muggy evening in chicago but it was definitely a cool place to be at Schubas Tavern. charlotte was there, headlining. i promised myself that if she ever did a headline tour, i would be there. had to do it. :) there was tons of love and support for her in that place. it was packed, sold out and about damn time. she was so strong up there, such presence and passion in her performance...and freakin hilarious in her wit and humor. for about an hour with an encore, she had the audience in her pocket and we went chasing shadows with her in the darkest hour...wild horses couldnt drag me away. (ok, i'll stop that now, lol). charlotte signed for over an hour, taking the time to speak with, sign, hug everyone that was there. and that was a lot of people! :) it was wonderful to see so many people there that just get it. it was a special evening, for a long awaited tour of a very special artist. here are some pics from the evening. hope you enjoy and get a sense of the fun, the appreciation and the love that was present for charlotte martin. :)

The Webster Underground is a smallish venue. Charlotte played BIG here. She was feeling under the weather but you'd never know it if she didn't mention it. She paraded on like the trooper and professional she is and gave it her all tonight, so much energy, so much fun, so much passion and power in her performance. she played 'limits' with a whole different tune/tempo in the beginning part of the song and yet it was sooo limits. :) i loved it. and when she whipped out the cover of 'the promise'...i was floored at how great that sounded, how she got the whole crowd to sing along to the chorus.
'i'm sorry but i'm just thinking of the right words to say. i know they don't sound the way i planned them to be. but if you wait around awhile, i'll make you fall for me, i promise. i promise you i will...'
The sing along made her happy, it made the crowd happy too. :) ken andrews has been a very cool presence on guitar in her sets. he pumps up the sound and the power a few notches...especially during chasing and steel. another great crowd pleaser that night was 'keep me in your pocket' with a fabulous backbeat and finger snapping accompaniment. :) charlootte had the whole crowd snap along and then clap along and everyone did it. it sounded great! it was pretty perfect to have the last song of the set be 'just like heaven' because for that evening, it was. the fact that charlotte played so wonderfully, and signed for a while in the red room with the giganto fan, meeting everyone...she is truly an inspiration. many of these places i've never been to and charlotte is making my first experiences in these places sooo memorable, unforgettable and amazing. the same description could describe char on this darkest hour tour. :)

Boston. Boston. I've never been here before. It was HOT. But I loved being there. Charlotte at the Paradise Lounge. It was a great show because of Charlotte and her music, but also because of the circumstances surrounding the performance. Mainly...her throat was phlegmed up. Most mere mortals like myself would whine and consider just sleeping in but not Charlotte, she's a professional, she's a trooper and a real inspiration. She sounded really good despite the congestion. With more halls lozenges on her piano and lotsa water (careful of water poisoning! yes water poisoning!), she gave an unbelievably, emotional, passionate performance. The crowd was laughing with her, and going on that emotional journey in song she takes you on. They were mesmerized. They also filled the place up, with people on the upper level as well. After nearly every song, I kept thinking to myself, 'how did she do that?' Because she's Charlotte Martin and she can sing through pretty much anything. Ah, please take care, Charlotte. You're a trooper and an inspiration. After the show, everyone was up getting cds and wanting to meet Char. It was coooool. :) I had to get going to catch my NYC bus. It was pouring outside, but I didn't care. I got to see a miracle of a performance...parade on, char. :)
