Veins Fall Tour 2005 begins in Chicago, IL. I wouldn't miss it. It's Charlotte. It's Chicago. (I love the CTA!) It's a fun city and Schubas is a cool place. I was nervous and excited! After meeting up with Larry, we headed over to the venue and just hang out until it's show time. Then, familiar faces and friends showed up. It was so good to see everyone and then it was showtime. After an opener, Charlotte took the stage to 'cars on crescent.' Charlotte has a VIRUS Synth with her this time around and lots of awesome sounds come out of it! :) I love when she plays with it, it's not easy but it's cool to watch. :) It makes her music even more powerful, just amplifies everything. The new songs w/ the synth? what? AWESOME. 'Veins' is even more powerful live because Charlotte's voice was strong. She belted and howled. Then, she played 'Limits of Our Love' which I LOVE, it's my fave along with 'Four Walls' (more on that in a few). It was played with the keyboard and synth and it sounded great! Then she went into 'Running up that hill' in the middle of 'Limits,' and then went back to 'Limits.' OMG. Perfection. 'Under the Gravel Skies' sounds great, darker, slower pace with this great heavy sound. One of my faves on the new EP...but then 'Four walls' came on and it was AWESOME. It sounded like it does on the EP but you've gotta see Charlotte do it live. It just makes you want to get up and dance and feel the music. It was just great to see Charlotte shine on that stage, to hear her sing and experiment with the synthesizer this time around and it's a great sound...there's MORE to the show. All the songs just sound familiar yet different and it's a cool thing! I love that. It would be enough to have Charlotte sing and play her keyboard but she puts more out there, tries new things, keeps it all fresh and pushes the limits of her music :)...a really really strong show to kick off the tour. And there was lots of love in that room for her. Her mom and dad were present and super sweet and nice. :) There was a long line of admirers waiting to see her and she saw everyone! She took the time and Erin the Tour Manager dilligently sold EPs! CDs! buttons! new stickers! a limited edition poster! Get your Char merch when you go to the shows...really good stuff. My nervous excitement turned into just big time excitement when Charlotte took the stage. Her intensity and passion that she puts into her performance? Check the pics...it's unmatched. This show kicks the tour off with new sounds, new songs and a great excitement around 'Veins.' So get out there and see some shows if you can! Listen to some great music, buy merch, meet Mitch the sound guy! It's a blast and Charlotte is awesome...I cannot wait to continue this journey. :)

it was a cold day in hartford ct, but inside the webster underground, it was hot...charlotte was headlining! there was a warmth and intensity in the air that only char and her music could get through. she is a light in the darkest hour. and it was a wonderful show. a nice crowd was there and was all game to play with char as she had the crowd singing along to 'something like a hero' and the virus synth is such an amazing addition. the sounds that come out of the virus just make the songs even more intense and powerful. 'four walls' and 'limits of our love' with the virus are just amazing! i'm in love with those songs majorly. always limits but four walls just grabs me...along with 'under the gravel skies.' And charlotte blew up with the ending of 'girl i left behind'...i love her playing the synth at the end! it just sounds cool. when i was a kid playing the piano, that was what i wanted to sound like! char just has a way with the crowd, it's just natural and fun. it was almost halloween (although there was a full costume party going on next door, weird) and she had a bat in her pocket that she spoke to, gave her advice on what to play. :) the show was a emotional, intense, powerful and fun. lots of love there for her and there was a nice line for meet/greet. she once again shut the place down, staying until she saw each person. and the 'monster' sing along...'ooh what would i do, without you'...singing it right back to char. indeed. :)

review by Jules :)
Borders in Rockaway is a great bookstore, very nice and cool...and bigger than I expected. char played a great set. fun, emotional...she had some technical difficulties which made it interesting, challenging and fun. hello, improv-char. :) she took it all in stride as the sound was cutting in and out...i think those were speakers from the store? i don't know, but the sound was going in and out and Mitch the sound dude was trying to fix the problem, but to no avail. She decided to play a Sinead O'Connor song accapella but was still learning the words, so she went to her bag and got her phone (which had the words in there, lol) out and started the song and sang it. Finally, she just asked for the casio from the van and it was Char on the casio for 'in parentheses' and 'i'm normal please date me.' it was lots of fun to hear those. a nice group of people showed up, some new, some familiar. it was nice and relaxing. totally felt the songs today and OYS is once again perfection to me. char continues to be an inspiration. thanks to everyone there...to char, erin and mitch for spending the afternoon in borders.

maxwell's is a cool venue. it's always an exciting time when charlotte plays here because the crowd always seems wired, lol! it was the case the last time and this time the excitement was multiplied. a nice crowd of char fans (hello marco, jenn, lauren, lauren, katie, ruth, leslie, etc. lol) were pressed up to the stage, ready for some great music and char did not disappoint. not even a couple of chatty guys could deter char and the fans from having a great time. her voice, the virus synth and the fans soon drowned them out. :) so much power in char's voice! right off the bat with 'veins.' and it was great to hear 'madman' w/ some synth. i love the virus! there was an awesome sing along to 'in parentheses'...lots of soul in the version char sang tonite. and the crowd sang it right with her, it was surprising to have this song as a sing along but it was really amazing! :) can i also say how much i LOVE char's cover of 'chocolate' by snow patrol? omg, awesome. 'up all night' is another favorite and requested by leslie. it's heartbreakingly gooood. a nice long line for char at the meet/greet. lots of fun and hijinx. and it's great to see so many familiar faces all beaming with char love. :D

char at world cafe live...wow. i've never been to this venue before and it's classy. beautiful. a great performance space that's just conducive to relaxing and listening to music. charlotte played a great show here tonite. the sound was nice and loud, perfect and char had everyone's attention. char and the synth was just powerful tonite. tonite, 'stretched on your grave' (sinead o'connor cover) stuck out as awesome. it's just stirring. and 'four walls' is fast becoming my favorite song. although 'limits of our love' on this tour has been amazing mixed with 'running up that hill'...it's perfect. her voice was so powerful and she belted and played that keyboard and synth with great dexterity and looked damn cool doing it...all arms crossed over and under the other, it was great. i love her with the synth so much, it just adds to her sound and...it's louder. the place sounded great with char's music in it. a very cool venue and i look forward to the next show!

nite 2 of char at the world cafe and the energy at this show was even more palpable than the first nite. a different kind of better because the crowd was louder for char, and it looked like char was having a great time. :) i'm not very familiar with happy rhodes but charlotte's version of her song '100 years' is beautiful. char playing that synth on 'girl i left behind' is just cool. i love when she plays that part at the end, standing up just showing her skillz. :D LOVE four walls more every time i hear it...makes you just wanna get up and dance...or at least bob your head and bounce around in your seat. :) and it is just soul-stirring to hear char sing the 'it is well with my soul' at the end of 'every time it rains'...beautiful. great to see more peeps tonite...i was with marco and noah again, but also carole...and tina, ryan, walter, katie were there as well. a great 2 nites at the world cafe for char! i cannot wait to see her there again. :)

back home! NYC. :) after getting off work and going to hoboken and then philadelphia and back to work the next days...it's good to be home. :) and i love joe's pub. such a cool, comfy venue (and they have great fries!). charlotte is always amazing here. she blew me away the last time she played joe's in 04. but tonite...it was just WOW. AMAZING. tonight's show was one of THE BEST char show's i've ever seen. like top 2. char was ON FIRE, the crowd was all riled up with char love and it was just an AMAZING show. i was quite blown away...i know others were as well. the applause and the love that was shown from the audience, the fans, all there to see char...and char just giving it all back 200%. it was awesome. joe's pub is a great place to see a show and char had everyone's attention in there. emotion packed show! and soooo many lovely peeps were there, it was a reunion...so much love in that room for char, the singing along to 'hero' was funnnnn...it was just loud applause and screaming after each song. standing ovation at the end. it was amazing to hear and see. overwhelming char love. it was electric in there, the energy in that room from char and her fans. her voice was just perfection, powerful. it was just such a highlight of a show because of that energy between char and her fans there. can't stop saying it cuz it's true. big love and shout outs to marco, lena, nikki, norman and his son (aww!), jillian, christa, lauren, berry, noah, peter, patrick, sky, jenn, leslie...soooo many friends there to support char. the line for the meet/greet was really long and people waited. awesome. i think she felt the love from her fans as much as we felt the love coming from her. i have no voice now from the cheering...i love it. it was a beautiful evening of char love. :)

i don't know how char does it but this was yet another amazing show! :) i'd never been to virginia before. i was touring with my new buddy lena and we had a great time travelling from NYC to DC to Vienna VA. jammin java is a cool room and charlotte played an awesome show. it was a room full of mostly dc area fans and charlotte said she'd never headlined there before so it was such a great surprise to find so much support for her. the place was packed! she was very teary by the end with the standing ovation and encore and the cheering for her. it was just a great thing to see and hear. she deserves that and so much more. she remarked that last nite at the NYC show, she left a vocal cord on the back wall of the venue, lol. well tonite she is leaving both! her voice sounds so amazing...and have i said today how much i love the synth? it just adds another dimension to char and she plays that synth with deft skill and looks damn cool doin' it. on four walls, she's bouncing on her chair and standing at one point as she played the synth. that song is meant to be danced to! i love it. i'm loving 'on your shore' all over again and 'keep me in your pocket' is a fun, clap-along song. and the 'something like a hero' sing along was loud and very cool. it was poweful, emotional and fun...thank you char for a great east coast run and thanks to all the cool fans i've been running into all over this week. it's been so fun! can't wait for more...

charlotte's first show in FL! it was a great success! i decided to catch this show just to see what it would be like. i've never been to jacksonville and this 'freebird live' place was intriguing. it was by the beach! a char show by the beach in november. how could i resist? :) i'm happy to say that 'freebird live' is one of the best venues i've seen char in. the sound in there is crisp and clear, the stage is nicely set up, the lighting is cool. it's a big place and very comfortable. the crowd was young-ish and kinda chatty...at least for the 2 openers. but when char came out, she had their attention. it was amazing! char came out to blue light and fog, hee. it was cool. and char proceeded to win over more fans this evening.:) 'stretched on your grave' was particularly powerful tonite...char was into it big time and the sound was amazing. just her voice filling the venue. 'i'm normal please date me' and it's background story was introduced to florida, lol. and a florida exclusive, the virus debut of 'lightblinde'...and it was AWESOME. i haven't heard 'chasing a shadow' much on tour and it was great to hear it tonite! <3 and a heartbreaking version of 'up all night'...just beautiful. charlotte kept remarking how amazed she was to see everyone there and how pleased she was. it was a great nite and a great show. the meet and greet was fun! lots of new fans and everyone was so excited and happy and smiling. i love it. great to hang with joe who came down for the show and to meet geralynn. an awesome first show for char in florida! can't wait to go back there to...freebird!!! :)

phoenix az. another place i've never been. charlotte is taking me on quite the journey and i love it. i was with my tour buds marco and noah and we made the trek to phoenix to catch the last show before the dvd taping! it was a really fun, special show tonight. phoenix crowd at the rhythm room was a bit chatty but char had it under control and was having a great time. lots of smiles and fun...lots of power and emotion and intensity. lots of love all around. :) 'four walls' tonite was just fun...the 'four walls' dance yay. :) i LOVE 'four walls.' and 'lightblinde' came out tonite; i liked the song on test-drive songs but when char plays it live the way she played it on this tour? LOVE it. pink monkeys. margaritas. birthday song for marco and susan. and out comes 'dancing in the dark' (erin's prank song)...char covers bruce springsteen and it was GORGEOUS. the crowd loved it, i know i loved it. :) then she plays 'the promise' for the encore...i love this song and we've been hoping to hear it and tonite was the nite. it's beautiful the way char plays it. standing ovation! an awesome, fun, intense show and we're just pumped up for the dvd show the next nite. tonite was no-holds barred in phoenix! and char was spectacular! :)
